Over the last week or so, I felt this sudden urge to declutter my home (mainly my bedroom) and freshen things up. It was a beautiful way to bring fresh, flowing, positive energy into a space. Have you noticed that whenever there’s a change in our circumstances, we naturally redesign our surroundings? Like the birth of a new child/ weddings/ moving out…we naturally fine-tune our surroundings to welcome change.
In this post, I’ll share 8 ways to bring fresh, flowing energy into your home without having to wait for changes in your circumstance. Let’s begin 😉
1. Declutter:
The way to bring fresh energy and new possibilities into your life is to create space for them. To clear out space and declutter. Go through all of your belongings and ask yourself “Do I love this? Does this mean something to me? Does it spark joy?” Know when it’s time to move things on – donate it to charity/ pass it on/ recycle/ neatly store it away if you’re not ready to let things go. When it comes to your dreams and duas, is there space for it to happen? If you’re making dua for a baby/ spouse, is there physical space for another person in your life? If you’re making dua for your career goals and passions, is there space in your schedule for more? Begin decluttering on a physical and emotional level.
2. Fresh Coat Of Paint/ Wallpaper:Â
When you enter a room, does it give you a feeling of expansion? That feeling of “aaah, I’m home, I can finally relax”. Colour affects our moods and feelings. It’s no wonder why there’s a whole study on the psychology of colour. A fresh coat of paint can do wonders to shake up the energy in a stale room.
3. Soy Candles/ Beeswax Candles:
Using scented candles creates an immediate shift in the atmosphere of any room. It’s soo grounding, intimate and calming. A candle represents all the 4 elements: water/ air/ fire/ earth, which is perhaps why we’re so drawn to them.
4. Make Use Of Mirrors:
One of the easiest way to make a room feel more open and lighter is by incorporating mirrors. Play around with different lengths and sizes. Depending on the position of the mirror, it can make a room appear larger, allow more natural light and accessories the space. It’s a feminine touch. You can never have too many mirrors 😉
5. Give Each Space A Purpose:
Set the intention for each space within your home. For example: Keep your bed for sleeping, lovemaking and your morning rituals (i.e. meditating in the morning). You don’t want to be lounging in bed and working at the same time. In the same way, work at your designated desk or space, try not to be eating your lunch at your desk or cluttering that space with laundry. Honour and nourish each space.
6. Add Meaningful Textures:
Soft rugs, patterned pillows, crystal coasters, a collection of your favourite magazines or books, glass trays, salt lamps… all these items add to the experience and ambience of your home. Does it spark joy? More isn’t always more. I love my collection of books but I’ve also learnt to store a few out of sight as it can look a little cluttered.
7. Minimise, Minimise, Minimise:
Especially in the spaces which represent possibility. This might sound totally crazy ‘woo-woo’ but stick with me 😉 Spaces such as the windowsill, entryway, balcony, garden – these spaces connect you with the outside world. You don’t want it to be cluttered or blocked with things. The entryway sets the tone for the rest of your home, it’s the first space you step into to retreat from the outside world. Even your bedside table – you don’t wan to wake up to clutter and stress first thing in the morning.
8. Sit On The Floor More Often:
It’s the sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon Him) to sit on the floor whilst eating. It’s deeply grounding. Take out a rug and work/ study sitting down on the floor and then do so sitting at a desk. Notice the difference in your energy. Whenever I coach clients whilst sitting on the ground, I’m much more connected and in-tuned with myself. Where as at my desk, I’m more into my business/ girl boss energy. Both are important and serve their purposes.
